On May 20th and 21st, Rio will host an annual event called Green Rio which aims to boost our organic production through meetings with producers and Green Economy representative sectors, developing a business roundtable.
It began on 2012, during Rio+20 and ever since has widen the barriers of Organics in our country and has brought information about to consumers.
According to Maria Beatriz Martins Costa – Green Rio organizer – the biggest obstacle to the expansion of Organics in Brazil is the lack of information. Indeed, mainly people only associate organics to food with no pesticides. But it is so much more than that. Organic food means that it comes from a production method based on traceability, preserving the quality of the soil and the real taste of the veggies or fruits.
Many of our producers will meet this month, including Maria Fernando Rizzo, the foundress of the “Empório da Papinha” (in English, Emporium of Baby Food). It´s a store that offers baby food – and also adult food – produced with organic veggies. The company produces more than 30 thousand meals per month and Brazil already has 40 stores.
Successful examples like these stimulats other people to invest in organics and contribute to deliver a healthier meal to our children, to our family.
That´s exactly what has happened to Rio´s state. At Green Rio, representatives of four cities of Rio de Janeiro will sign a term, pledging to deliver organic food to their children through the Project Healthy School Feeding. It´s such a nice project that aims to develop local production and improve children´s feeding.
It will start as a small project, just like a seed, but it´s like this that big ideas become big realities.
Green Rio will be host in Jardim Botânico and anyone can attend the lectures and meet Brazilian advances in Organics and Cosmetics – that will be a special sector dedicated to Cosmetics made in Amazonia
